The Avelo System integrates buoyancy stabilization, streamlined design, real-time feedback, and progressive training into a single diving architecture

Conventional scuba systems are collections of independent components. The tank holds gas. The BCD manages buoyancy. Weights offset the BCD. The dive computer tracks depth and time. Each component operates separately, and the diver manages the gaps between them.
The Avelo System is designed differently. Buoyancy, movement, feedback, and training are integrated into a single architecture. The Hydrotank replaces the conventional tank, BCD, and weight system. The Jetpack powers the Hydrotank and serves as the backplate and harness. Avelo Mode provides real-time awareness during the dive. Avelo Edge provides post-dive analysis. Together, they form a unified system designed around the diver.

Fewer corrections. Less distraction. Intuitive control.

The Hydrotank is the core of the Avelo System. It replaces the conventional tank, BCD, and weight system with a single integrated unit. Breathing gas is stored inside a bladder. Water is added to and removed from the Hydrotank to establish and adjust buoyancy.
When you add water, you become heavier. When you purge water, you become lighter. Because water is incompressible, buoyancy remains stable across depth changes. This eliminates the constant adjustment that conventional systems require.
Components: high-pressure DIN valve, poppet valve, bladder, composite overwrapped pressure vessels (COPV), water chamber, positionable elbow, cage
The Jetpack powers the Hydrotank and integrates the physical structure that secures the system to the diver. It is a backplate and harness system with a battery-powered pump and hydraulic controls.
The diver controls buoyancy manually through the Jetpack. Add water to the Hydrotank to become heavier. Purge water to become lighter. The system responds to the diver's input, not the other way around.
Components: backplate, harness, battery, pump, spool valve, purge valve, quick disconnect, on/off button, surface marker buoy, hydraulic hose, crossbar strap

Three system innovations that change how diving feels

Maintains buoyancy across depth changes. Water-based buoyancy eliminates the depth-related volume changes that make conventional systems unstable. Stability becomes the default.

Lightweight, low-drag, streamlined configuration. The Avelo System sits close to the body, reducing drag and enabling fluid, natural movement through the water.

Avelo Mode during the dive. Avelo Edge after it. Real-time responsiveness that keeps you aware, without distraction. Awareness, not interruption.

Avelo Mode is the in-dive integration that displays on compatible Shearwater and ScubaPro dive computers. It provides real-time awareness of the zone of stable neutral buoyancy, diver workload, and system efficiency.
Avelo Mode gives the diver the information they need in the moment, without adding cognitive load or interrupting the dive. Its role is limited to the in-dive experience: awareness, not interruption.
Available on all air-integrated Shearwater computers except the Petrel, and the ScubaPro G2C dive computer.
Where a standard dive log records what occurred, Avelo Edge explains what it means. Avelo Edge Pro extends that intelligence into the professional training environment.

Post-dive performance analytics for recreational divers. Avelo Edge captures dive data and interprets it into meaningful performance metrics: stability, workload, efficiency, and progression over time.
Metrics are presented in plain, human terms rather than raw data exports. They are interpreted results that a diver can understand, discuss with an instructor, and act on before their next dive.

Post-dive coaching and performance tools for instructors, dive centers, and Avelo headquarters. Avelo Edge Pro makes training outcomes concrete, measurable, and visible.
Instructors see student performance. Students see their progression. Dive centers track training quality across the team. Avelo ensures certification integrity across the global network.

The Shearwater Jetpack brings together Avelo's integrated buoyancy architecture with Shearwater's dive computing expertise into a single system.
An updated backplate, jacket, and harness design comes in two sizes for improved fit and comfort. The integrated Swift GPS transmitter captures dive entry and exit coordinates. Bluetooth connectivity enables firmware updates and allows technicians to pull diagnostics for troubleshooting and maintenance. A new Shearwater battery delivers additional safety features and performance management.
The result is a Jetpack designed for performance, reliability, and the future of human-centered diving.

Understanding why water-based buoyancy changes everything
In conventional scuba, buoyancy changes with depth. As a diver descends, the air in the BCD compresses and the diver becomes heavier. As they ascend, the air expands and the diver becomes lighter. This creates a cycle of constant correction that demands attention throughout the dive.
The Avelo System uses water instead of air to control buoyancy. Water does not compress or expand with depth changes. When the diver establishes neutral buoyancy, it holds steady whether they are at five meters or 30 meters. The result is fewer corrections, less effort, and more stable movement throughout the dive.
The diver is always in control. The system does not automate buoyancy. It stabilizes it. The diver selects, initiates, and controls every adjustment.
Designed around the diver, with control built into every interaction
The Avelo System is designed using human-centered design principles and human factors engineering. The defining innovation is not a single feature. It is the architecture of the entire system.
By designing the system around the human body, natural movement, and awareness underwater, Avelo enables divers to remain fully focused on the environment. When buoyancy, movement, awareness, and decision-making align naturally, the equipment fades into the background.
Avelo is not automation. Avelo is amplification.
The diver is always in command.
This is a critical and intentional departure from the direction autonomous and AI-assisted diving technology is heading. Avelo reduces task load. Divers select, initiate, and control every aspect of the dive.
The Avelo System is engineered to meet the highest safety and quality standards in the diving industry. Water-based buoyancy eliminates the rapid volume changes that cause uncontrolled ascents in conventional BCD systems. The diver maintains manual control at all times.
Avelo training upholds the same engineering and quality standards that define the system itself. Built on human factors principles, the training methodology integrates measurable feedback into every dive. Divers grow with each dive, supported by a system designed to make learning visible.
